Truck Show Competitive Guidelines -

Please note that being an entrant in the “Show and Shine” does not prohibit or preclude anyone from competing on the dragstrip. In fact, all entrants are encouraged to take advantage of the availability to race. If a competitor wishes to compete on the track prior to judging, allowances will be given for dirt, debris, etc., picked up as a direct result of competing on the racing surface.

Competitors wishing to compete on the track after judging are advised that they must return to their display stall when not racing, to facilitate an attractive overall display for spectators.

Exclusions from Judging:

Interiors and under-hood areas will not be scored on their own. However, if a competitor wishes to have hood or doors open at time of judging, the overall impression will be included in the “presentation” category.

Judging Time:

Judging can take place at any time after noon Saturday, and in any event, not later than 11 AM Sunday. If a competitor is ready to be judged, he shall place a red sticker (supplied at time of entry) on his window registration card, which will indicate to the judges that he or she is ready. The entrant will be notified once judging has been completed. The entrant will only be judged once, “re-judging” will not be done. Judging will be done as soon as practicable after displaying the sticker, but no guarantee will be made as to how soon after displaying the sticker that judging will be done.

All vehicles entered in “Show and Shine” Competition will be judged on the following basic criteria. Points will be awarded for each category, and point totals will will determine winners of each class, and “Best of Show”.

Other Information:

Consideration in judging is given to age and mileage of units.

Please note than in most instances, judging is based on effort of the entrant, and care and pride taken in preparation scores points. A plain truck that was painstakenly prepared may score higher points than a “full dresser” with no effort put forward.

Declarations:

Point totals will not be disclosed. Judges decision is final. No appeal or protests allowed.

Any entrants not ready to be judged by 11AM Sunday will not be judged. An entrant may not win more than one category for the same entry. Violation of rules of St. Thomas Dragway (noise, safety, abuse of facilities, etc.) disqualifies entrant from judging.

Please note that you do not have to compete in the “show and shine” to compete on the track, and vice versa, although all are encouraged to do both.

Drag racing will be done straight up, i.e. no dial in. If numbers warrant, racing classes may be set up based on HP ratings at the sole discretion of St Thomas Dragway officials. For first timers, be advised that history has shown ¼ mile elapsed times in the 18 to 21 second range, with top speeds in the 65 to 75 mph range at the trap. No driveline or clutch breakage has been recorded, although no guarantee of same is stated or implied. Passengers are allowed in the passenger seat only, not the bunk.

Tractor trailer units will be parked on grass. If a trailer is to be dropped, you may wish to supply your own landing gear pads, blocks, etc. dependent on weather.

In the interest of safety, please, NEVER back up a unit of any kind without a competent spotter. Spectators, including children, will be walking around.

Any person found operating any vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be immediately evicted from the premises, and banned from future entry.

As professionals in the trucking industry, shows like this can leave a valuable impression on the general public. This is your chance to show the public the best of the best, and have a great time with family and friends. We look forward to seeing you there.
